The Ministry of Internal Affairs Responds to Allegations of Torture and Humiliation by Police on a Detained Woman

In connection with lawyer Zarouhi Postanjyan's statement alleging that police in Gyumri "tortured and humiliated" a detainee, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has reported that the information is inaccurate. This announcement was made by the ministry's press secretary, Narek Sargsyan, on his Facebook page.

According to Sargsyan, the individual in question was detained based on an investigator's decision and transported to the Kumayri division of the Community Police, where female officers conducted a personal search in the presence of female witnesses and without cameras. Furthermore, in accordance with the relevant government decision prior to placing the detainee in custody, an ambulance team was called to conduct a medical examination.

The doctor, without the presence of police and without cameras, examined the detainee, after which she was taken to the detention facility. Sargsyan urged the public not to spread false information and to refrain from making unfounded accusations against police officers who are executing their legally assigned duties.
