Date of Pope Leo XIV's Coronation Ceremony Announced

The coronation ceremony for Pope Leo XIV will take place on May 18, as reported by Reuters citing a statement from the Vatican. Additionally, the newly elected Pope will hold his first general audience on May 21.

Today, he celebrated his first Mass as pontiff in the Sistine Chapel. It was announced the day before that the new Pope's name has been revealed. American Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected as the Pontiff and has taken the name Leo XIV. The true name of the Pope is Robert Francis Prevost, he is 69 years old and was born in Chicago.

In February 2025, Pope Francis raised him to the rank of cardinal bishop (that is, senior cardinal). He is the first Pope in history from the United States.
