Changes in Age Limit for Joining the Police Force

The government has approved a legislative initiative concerning amendments and additions to the Law on Police Service in the Republic of Armenia. This was reported by the government.

The decision proposes to remove age restrictions for joining the police force. It also allows newly appointed police officers to undergo certification not six months after their appointment, but two months later.

Additionally, the decision creates a legal basis for the community police to be rapidly filled with graduates from targeted educational programs.

Moreover, individuals who have received vocational education and undergone the corresponding retraining will be considered as having passed the certification qualifying for additional pay.

It is stipulated that only individuals who have received vocational training as community police officers in an authorized training institution may be appointed to the position of community police officer. As for current police officers, their appointments to the middle, senior, or chief groups of community police will strictly take place only after completing the relevant retraining courses in an authorized institution.
