New Developments in Indo-Pak Escalation

The Pakistani military has struck a command post of an Indian army infantry brigade, destroying its headquarters. This was announced by the Director of the Public Relations Department of the Pakistani Ministry of Defence, General Ahmed Chowdhury, during a press briefing in Islamabad.

“The Pakistan Army has fully responded to India's aggression and has destroyed the headquarters where the violations of the ceasefire line in Kashmir were coordinated by Indian troops,” Chowdhury was quoted by the ‘Dawn’ newspaper.

According to him, Pakistan targeted several Indian military positions in the Kashmir regions of Chatri, Jura, and Sarlia, as well as shot down five Indian Air Force fighter jets that were involved in air strikes on the territory of the Islamic Republic. “We did not allow any Indian aircraft to violate Pakistani airspace, and no Pakistani aircraft has breached the Indian border,” added the General.

As a result of Indian airstrikes, 26 Pakistanis were killed and 46 others were injured.

The Indian Ministry of Defence has announced that on the night of May 7, the armed forces conducted ‘Operation Sindur’ to eliminate terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. “The Indian Armed Forces have initiated ‘Operation Sindur’ targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and in the areas of Jammu and Kashmir occupied by Pakistan, from where terrorist attacks against India were planned and executed,” the statement reads. “A total of nine strikes were carried out.”

Indian media reports indicate that the risk of further escalation in relations between India and Pakistan remains high. New Delhi asserts that any threat from Pakistan to India’s sovereignty will receive a measured and decisive response.
