Iran Responds to Trump's Statement

The political motivations behind changing the historical name of the Persian Gulf indicate hostile intentions against Iran, stated Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, commenting on reports that U.S. President Donald Trump plans to refer to the Persian Gulf as the Arabian Gulf during his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia. This was reported by the Tasnim agency.

“The name Persian Gulf, like many geographical names, has deep roots in human history. Iran has never opposed the use of names such as the Sea of Oman, the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, or the Red Sea. The use of these names does not imply ownership by any specific nation, but rather demonstrates a collective respect for the heritage of humanity,” Araghchi noted.

“In contrast, the political motivations behind changing the historical name of the Persian Gulf point to hostile intentions against Iran and its people, and are vehemently condemned. Such biased actions are an affront to all Iranians, regardless of their origins or where they reside. I hope that the ridiculous discussions about the name of the Persian Gulf are nothing more than a campaign of lies aimed at angering and provoking Iranians around the world,” he added.
