Kadyrov Requests Release from Position of Chechnya Leader

The leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has personally requested to be relieved of his position. This was reported by the news agency 'Chechnya Today,' with Kadyrov commenting on rumors regarding his dismissal.
“I have also heard those rumors. Various things are being written. On the contrary, I am the one asking to be released from my position. Someone else will have their own initiatives, their own vision. I hope my request will be supported,” he stated.
Ramzan Kadyrov has been the leader of Chechnya since April 2007, making him one of the longest-serving regional leaders in Russia. He was most recently reelected in September 2021, receiving 99.7% of the voters' support. His term is set to end in 2026.
