Germany Has a New Chancellor
Friedrich Merz has been elected as Germany's chancellor in the second round of voting. He received 325 votes from parliament members, surpassing the necessary 316 votes.
Merz's appointment still requires confirmation from President Steinmeier, after which he will be sworn in and lead the government.
It is worth noting that Friedrich Merz, the candidate for Germany's chancellorship, had declined to participate in the second round of voting.
