During the conversation, Trump was reminded of his post in which he suggested that the Kremlin leader is 'pulling himself by the nose' and may not want to stop the war in Ukraine. In late April, during a press conference, he mentioned that he would need two weeks to answer whether he trusts Putin.

When asked if Trump had underestimated Putin, he replied that another few weeks or a month would be necessary. 'No. I will tell you that in one or several weeks. I have no idea. But I can say one thing: his ambitions were greatly restrained when he realized that I am now leading the process. Because he was not taking anyone in Europe seriously—he didn’t even return their calls,' Trump said.
