Cardinals Arrive in Rome for New Pope Election

All 133 cardinal electors have arrived in Rome ahead of the conclave to elect the new leader of the Catholic Church. This was officially announced by the Holy See's press service following the conclusion of the tenth assembly held in the Vatican.

The press service's statement noted, “All 133 cardinal electors are now in Rome.” The assembly activities involve 179 members of the College of Cardinals. However, only those hierarchs under the age of 80 are eligible to participate in the conclave.

On April 28, Matteo Bruni, the head of the Holy See's press service, announced that the cardinal conclave will convene on May 7 to elect the new Pope of Rome. Approximately 135 cardinals from around the world, who are under 80, have the right to participate.
