India Cuts Off Water Flow to Pakistan

Lilit A.

India has shut off water from the Chenab River, which flows into Pakistan via the Baglihar Dam, according to the Hindustan Times, citing sources from the PTI news agency. Similar measures are also planned for the Kishanganga Dam on the Jhelum River.

It is worth recalling that following a terrorist attack in northern Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, India has taken several measures against Pakistan, including the cessation of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty.

Pakistani authorities have announced that any attempt to stop the flow of water into the country will be considered an act of war. India and Pakistan have reduced the number of diplomatic missions, banned each other's vessels from entering their ports, announced a halt to trade, and revoked visas for each other's citizens. The Pakistani government has accused India of intending to start a war.
