Another Major Fine for TikTok Application: Details

The data protection regulator in Ireland has fined ByteDance, the owner of the TikTok short video service, €530 million this week. This information has been reported by Reuters.

The commission found that ByteDance failed to prove that it had restricted access for Chinese employees to EU user data. European legislation requires that data be stored within the region. The company has been ordered to align its data processing with EU laws within six months.

Representatives of ByteDance have expressed their intention to challenge the decision, claiming that it does not take into account the security measures implemented in 2023. It should be noted that the user base of TikTok in Europe is approximately 175 million.

This is not the first major fine for ByteDance in the region. In 2023, the company was fined €345 million for violating rules related to the processing of children's personal data.
