Human Rights Defender on the Brawl at the Nor Nork Community Council

Commenting on the brawl at the Nor Nork Community Council, Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan stated that she attended a government meeting and, therefore, could not familiarize herself with the information regarding the incident.

According to Manasyan, they are not responsible for the subsequent steps related to initiating criminal proceedings: “When I return to the office, I will understand what actions we can take within the scope of our functions.”

Regarding the insults voiced by Nor Nork community leader Tigran Ter-Margaryan, Manasyan emphasized that she considers the institute of officials' ethics and their integrity to be one of the most important links: “I won't say that this does not exist in Armenia; there are certainly organizations that deal with these issues. Essentially, it is not the Office of the Human Rights Defender that addresses matters related to the ethics of public officials. I believe that this institution is not sufficiently established in Armenia. I think every such case should become a subject of discussion regarding ethics.”

The Human Rights Defender insisted that there are numerous issues concerning human rights protection in Armenia: “These relate to various sectors and problems, and they need to be addressed.”
