Situation in Spain After Power Outages

The electricity supply in Spain has nearly been fully restored following mass outages. This has been reported by Red Eléctrica, the company managing the National Electric Grid.

“99.16% of electricity demand in the peninsula has been restored. 100% of the substations in the electricity transmission network are operational,” the company stated on social media.

Recall that this past Monday, a widespread power outage occurred across almost the entire territory of Spain. The operator of the electric grids, Red Eléctrica, reported that recovery could take up to ten hours.

Outages were also experienced in Portugal, France, and Andorra. The country was forced to halt all rail transport. This also affected public transportation in cities where traffic lights were not functioning. Long lines formed in supermarkets, and people had to be rescued from stuck elevators. All nuclear power plants in the country were safely shut down.
