Garni Nature Reserve to Become Garni Archaeological Site: Deputy Minister of Education
During a session of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, a proposal was made regarding amendments to the law on the "Protection and Use of Immovable Historical and Cultural Monuments and Historic Environments." Specifically, the term 'reserve' is currently being used in place of 'archaeological site,' but it should be made applicable to archaeological sites, as reserves inherently imply a restriction.
From now on, historical monuments will be referred to as archaeological sites, for example, the Garni Archaeological Site.
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Alfred Kocharyan noted that this is also accepted in international practice. "Moreover, the term reserve itself carries a connotation of restriction. Of course, certain regimes need to be established, similar to what is done with the Khosrov Nature Reserve," he stated.
