New Tension Between India and Pakistan: Pakistan Expels Indian Diplomats
Fighting continues for the third consecutive night along the India-Pakistan border in the Kashmir region, according to reports from AFP.
India has accused Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism, especially following one of the most horrific attacks on civilians in Kashmir by a predominantly Muslim population in recent decades.
Islamabad has denied any involvement, labeling attempts to link Pakistan to the attacks as baseless and promising to respond to any actions taken by India.
The United Nations has called on both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint, urging that issues be resolved peacefully through constructive cooperation.
In response, New Delhi has suspended the water-sharing treaty, announced the closure of a major land border crossing with Pakistan, downgraded diplomatic relations, and canceled visas issued to Pakistani nationals.
In retaliation, Islamabad has ordered the expulsion of Indian diplomats and military advisers, revoked visas for Indian citizens except for Sikh pilgrims, and closed its main border crossing.
Islamabad has stated that it will not engage in military actions against India unless the situation escalates, with Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stating in an interview with RIA Novosti that the country is unlikely to resort to nuclear war with India.
Pakistan desires an international investigation into the terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, as it considers the accusations against it unfounded.
