Neighborhoods in Baku Flooded: Residents Sleeping on Rooftops
In the Lokbatani village of the Garadagh district in Baku, heavy rain over the course of several hours caused the canal, which locals refer to as a lake, to overflow, flooding several residential neighborhoods. Hundreds of homes in the first residential bloc remain submerged.
Moreover, due to the overflow of sewer manholes in yards and streets, rainwater has mixed with sewage. After a sudden rise in the water level in the canal, homes were inundated. The pressure increased so rapidly that many residents could not gather their belongings in time. Children and the elderly were evacuated to safe locations with the help of a local resident’s tractor, while those who were unable to leave in time spent the night on their rooftops in the rain.
