France and Britain Ready to Acknowledge Ukraine's Territorial Losses
The leadership of France and Britain is open to a scenario in which Ukraine agrees to acknowledge the loss of certain territories that have officially become part of Russia, within the framework of a potential peace agreement. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources from the diplomatic circles of both countries.
At the same time, according to the sources, London and Paris believe that in exchange for such recognition, Ukraine should receive reliable guarantees for its future security and robust economic support for further development. France and the United Kingdom would prefer a scenario wherein Kyiv recognizes the loss of territories only de facto, without formal confirmation of the current situation on the ground.
As an example, they referenced the armistice agreement between North Korea and the Republic of Korea, which ended the Korean War of 1950-1953.
Overall, as WSJ notes, the prospect of official recognition of territorial losses has raised concerns among Ukraine's leadership and the governments of Kyiv's allied countries in Europe. Moreover, the publication points out that implementing such a move would require Ukraine to overcome a number of significant political and legal complexities that hinder such a scenario.
