We Are Ready for This: Pezeshkian
The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasized Tehran's readiness to negotiate a deal on equal terms with the United States, provided that its national interests are safeguarded, as reported by Tasnim.
During a meeting with the Governors of Iran in the Ministry of Interior on Monday, Pezeshkian confirmed his administration's commitment to developing political, economic, scientific, and cultural relations with other countries, particularly Islamic and neighboring states.
“We strive for constructive cooperation with other countries based on mutual respect,” he said.
Commenting on the two rounds of indirect negotiations with the U.S., the president stated, “We are ready for a deal with the U.S. within certain frameworks and with the protection of our national interests.”
“However, if they (the U.S.) do not wish to negotiate with us on equal terms, we will remain committed to our own path,” the Iranian president added.
Responding to comments made by Iran's Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian remarked that Iran holds neither an optimistic nor a pessimistic view towards negotiations with the U.S.
Iranian and U.S. delegations have held two rounds of negotiations in Muscat and Rome over the past two weeks to reach an agreement concerning Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions against Iran. The parties have agreed to begin technical discussions at the expert level in Oman on April 23, to be followed by a meeting of lead negotiators on April 26.
