Number of Missing Persons Decreased: Chairman of the Investigative Committee Presents Details
The number of missing persons and those who have agreed to bury the remains of their children has decreased. This was stated by the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, Arthur Poghosyan, during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly, addressing the issue of missing persons resulting from the 44-day war.
“Today we need to record that this number has decreased since investigators have worked and conducted expertise. In this regard, we note that an investigation has been carried out,” he said.
In response to a journalist's remark that the relatives of the missing persons left the last meeting with him and other officials in the National Assembly quite dissatisfied, describing the work of investigators as sloppy, Poghosyan assured that he has not tried to justify any investigator's actions or inaction in any way. However, he noted that since his appointment, as well as before it, extensive work has been done within these criminal proceedings.
“We can do everything possible, but there may be people who are objectively dissatisfied with the investigation because perhaps their expectations were different,” emphasized the Chairman of the Investigative Committee.
He mentioned that this criminal case consists of hundreds of volumes, and at this moment there are numerous examinations whose results have not yet been received.
Referring to a relative of one of the missing persons who qualified the Investigative Committee's work as sloppy, Poghosyan informed that this was related to a document in which the investigator made a technical error by naming another person in the decision. “The parents considered this to be the investigator's attitude. In this regard, a service investigation has been initiated within the committee, but the person who received that document was fully satisfied with the response and understood that it was merely a mistake. I believe it is unfair to characterize the investigation as sloppy based on one document,” said Poghosyan.
He assured that he receives relatives on a daily basis and offers solutions on-site.
