The Spiritual Will of Pope Francis Has Been Published

The Vatican has published the spiritual will of Pope Francis. It is reported that it was composed on June 29, 2022. The document expresses the Pope's final wishes regarding his burial place.

Francis requests that his body be buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. “I ask that my grave be prepared in a burial niche in the side aisle that passes between the Chapels of Paulina and Sforza. The grave should be in the ground, simple, without adornments, with the only inscription: Franciscus,” the will states.

He emphasizes that the costs for the burial should be covered by a donation from a benefactor, which Francis has previously transferred to the basilica.
