Telegram Will Not Compromise Encryption, Says Durov

Pavel Durov, the co-founder of Telegram, has announced that the messenger has never disclosed a single byte of private messaging data in its 12-year history, according to TASS.

"Throughout its 12-year history, Telegram has never revealed a single byte of personal messages," Durov wrote. He reminded that the messenger only discloses the IP addresses and phone numbers of alleged criminals when there is a court order. This is done in accordance with the European law on digital services.

Durov commented on the French Senate's adoption of a bill requiring messengers to create a backdoor that would allow law enforcement agencies to access personal messages. The initiative was rejected by the National Assembly.

"Telegram would rather leave the market than compromise encryption and violate fundamental human rights through backdoors. Unlike some competitors, we do not trade privacy for market share," the executive stated.
