Gas Pipeline from Russia to Iran Will Pass Through Azerbaijan
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law ratifying the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Iran. The relevant document has been published on the official website of legal acts, reports RIA Novosti.
The agreement was signed during the visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Moscow on January 17, 2025.
The main provisions of the agreement include the following: Moscow and Tehran have agreed to support trade and economic cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, the parties will closely cooperate in conducting joint military exercises, and if one country is subjected to aggression, the other must not provide assistance to the attacking side. Russia and Iran will not allow the use of their territories to support separatist movements that threaten their territorial integrity.
Moscow and Tehran will cooperate in combating international terrorism and other challenges and threats. The countries intend to oppose the application of unilateral sanctions, considering their imposition as an illegal international action. Moscow and Tehran have agreed to promote cooperation between the media of both countries to counter misinformation and negative propaganda.
Furthermore, the two sides will provide each other with possible assistance in preventing natural and technogenic disasters. The gas pipeline from Russia to Iran will pass through Azerbaijan, and the parties will agree on price approaches. Russia and Iran are interested in joint projects in the peaceful atomic energy sector, including the construction of nuclear energy facilities.
It is noteworthy that the agreement has been concluded for 20 years, with automatic extensions for subsequent five-year periods.
