Armenia's Men's and Women's Weightlifting Teams Crowned Champions at European Championships

Armenia's men's and women's weightlifting teams have emerged victorious in the team rankings at the European Championships. This information was reported by the Armenian Weightlifting Federation.

Notably, the Armenian men's weightlifting team concluded their performances at the European Championship with a total of 2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals in the combined events.

Member of the Armenian Olympic team, 2024 European Champion, and World Cup winner in the super heavyweight category, Varazdat Lalayan, secured a gold medal at the nearing conclusion of the European Championship in Moldova, showcasing an impressive result of 450 kg in the combined lift. Additionally, Lalayan also captured gold medals in individual events, lifting 210 kg in the snatch and 240 kg in the clean and jerk.

Another member of the Armenian men's national team, European Champion and bronze medalist Garik Karapetyan, also earned a gold medal at the European Championship in Moldova, demonstrating a combined result of 411 kg in the total lift. This marks the second time Karapetyan has been crowned European Champion and secured Armenia's first gold medal at the European Championships in Moldova. In individual events, he achieved gold medals as well, lifting 185 kg in the snatch and 226 kg in the clean and jerk.

Double Olympic silver medalist, multiple World and European Champion Simon Martirosyan, also earned the title of European Vice Champion with a total of 406 kg. He claimed the silver medal in the snatch event, lifting 181 kg on his third attempt, and further secured a silver medal in the clean and jerk with a result of 225 kg.

European Championship bronze medalist, two-time European U23 champion, and Youth World Championship gold medalist Liana Gyurjyan achieved a silver medal at the European Championship in Moldova with a total of 246 kg. Another representative of Armenia in this weight class, European Vice Champion and bronze medalist in the World Cup Tatev Hakobyan, earned a minor silver medal in the snatch event. Gor Sahakyan became the silver medalist of the European Championship with a total lift of 338 kg.

European Vice Champion Alexandra Grigoryan, competing in the women's 55 kg category, achieved a total of 202 kg (85 kg in snatch and 117 kg in clean and jerk), while fellow male teammate Garnik Cholakyan secured a bronze medal in the 61 kg category with a total of 275 kg (124 kg and 151 kg).
