Witkoff's Plan Does Not Promise Security to Ukraine

The Witkoff plan for ending the war, presented to Europeans in Paris, includes numerous concessions to Moscow and does not provide security guarantees for Ukraine. This was reported by the Washington Post.

According to the publication, Witkoff presented a negotiation framework to Ukrainian and European leaders that was developed during a meeting with Putin. It included so many concessions on security matters to Moscow that Ukrainian and European officials refused to accept it.

The obstacle may be that the plan seemingly does not include security guarantees supported by the U.S. Instead, Ukraine appears to be left to the whims of European countries for assistance.

It has been noted that Moscow is unwilling to compromise on any terms. It is also reported that the U.S. Secretary of State and NATO’s Secretary General discussed the war in Ukraine. Marco Rubio informed Mark Rutte about conflict resolution proposals that Washington had previously presented to Kyiv and Moscow.

“President Trump and the United States hope that the proposal will be accepted and that stable peace will be established in Ukraine,” Rubio stated. The Secretary of State reiterated Trump’s words that if prospects for peace are not seen soon, Washington will withdraw its mediation efforts.
