Zelensky Proposes Extension of Martial Law
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has submitted bills to the Verkhovna Rada regarding the "Extension of Martial Law in Ukraine" and the "Extension of General Mobilization." This was reported by local media.
According to the bill, Martial Law and mobilization will be extended for 90 days, from May 9, 2025, until August 6.
The Verkhovna Rada approved the presidential decrees on martial law and mobilization on the morning of February 24, 2022, for a period of 30 days. Since then, the terms have been continuously extended, initially by one month, and from May 2022 onward, by three months.
It is noteworthy that during negotiations with Kyiv, the United States demanded the holding of elections in Ukraine. However, according to the country's legislation, this is not possible during the period of martial law.
