No Need for Such a Scenario: Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister

As soon as Armenia and Azerbaijan are able to sign the peace agreement, it will be better for both countries and the region. This statement was made by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi in an interview with Regionmonitor.com.

“When we heard that the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan was finalized, we were very happy because after many years of bloodshed and enmity, now it is time for the two countries to focus their attention on building the future of both nations,” he said.

He noted that Iran does not wish to interfere in the affairs of the two countries, but the sooner this document can be signed, the better, because the past is the past.

“We must focus on the future. There are many opportunities that can be utilized for both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Iran has friendly relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan and is ready to do everything possible to facilitate the work that needs to be done to sign the agreement. We believe that both nations should take advantage of this opportunity,” he emphasized.

Addressing the possibility of aggression from Azerbaijan, the Iranian official reiterated that Iran is against any change in borders. “We are against any change in the geopolitical landscape of the region. There is no need for such a scenario,” Ravanchi declared.

It is worth noting that on March 13, it became known that Yerevan and Baku had completed negotiations on the text of the peace agreement, agreeing on the last two points concerning the withdrawal of third parties from border areas and the abandonment of claims submitted to international courts.
