The Ultimate Goal is Full Normalization of Relations: Mirzoyan

The dialogue between Armenia and Turkey relates not only to the formal establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of borders but also to extensive trade. This was stated by Ararat Mirzoyan in an interview with CivilNet.

“We both understand that the ultimate goal is the full normalization of relations, including the establishment of diplomatic relations and the complete opening of the border. Our dialogue is not only about the official establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of the border. It is about extensive trade. We have also discussed certain joint energy projects and transit opportunities between the countries,” said the Foreign Minister.

According to Mirzoyan, they also addressed the topic of cooperation in international forums. “Because reality shows that sometimes, when it comes to, for example, Middle Eastern issues, our views, our perceptions are closer than one might assume,” he added.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that certain steps have already been taken between Ankara and Yerevan in areas such as “airspace usage,” and experts from both countries have held discussions regarding the Margara-Alicank border checkpoint and the Gyumri-Kars railway.

However, he admitted that progress in some areas has stalled. “We had agreed on opening the border for citizens of third countries, as well as for Armenian and Turkish citizens holding diplomatic passports. Unfortunately, this agreement has not yet been realized,” the minister stated.
