What Are the Main Causes of Traffic Accidents

The primary cause of traffic accidents is exceeding speed limits. This accounts for 31 percent of incidents. This was stated by the President of the National Road Safety Council, Poghos Shahinyan, during parliamentary hearings related to road traffic safety in the National Assembly.

According to him, the causes of traffic accidents include violations of traffic rules by pedestrians, which account for 22 percent of cases, realignment of traffic lanes at 12 percent, intersection crossings at 11 percent, road signs at 9 percent, vehicle distance at 6 percent, pedestrian crossings at 5 percent, and driving under the influence at 4 percent.

“This pattern may change slightly from year to year, but the overall picture will not change, meaning speed will remain in the first place. Fortunately, driving under the influence accounts for only 4 percent of incidents, which is a very good indicator, for which we thank the relevant authorities for their ability to regulate,” he noted.
