Azerbaijan's President Aliyev: Armenia Had High Hopes
Armenia hoped that after the elections in the United States, the Democrats would remain in power, and the election of Donald Trump as president was a significant disappointment for them. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a speech at the international forum titled 'Towards a New World Order.'
'The US-Azerbaijan relations during the Biden-Blinken administration can be characterized as crisis-ridden. And we have not been the cause of it. We have always wanted to have good relations with the US, which is the world's strongest country. The situation was due to the anti-Azerbaijani policy pursued by Secretary of State Blinken,' said Aliyev.
He also once again expressed grievances against the previous Biden administration. 'But when the Biden-Blinken administration fled Afghanistan, they again directed this against us. Such ungratefulness is very harmful to the administration itself, because after that, who will trust them? As a result, our trust in the Biden-Blinken team reached zero, and our relations were in a very serious crisis. The Biden administration clearly tied its position to Armenia. We saw this since the beginning of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict,' noted Aliyev.
The Azerbaijani president also expressed dissatisfaction with the meeting held on April 5 last year among Armenia, the EU, and the US. He emphasized that such a meeting had not occurred with any post-Soviet country, nor with any country in the world.
Aliyev is also concerned about the strategic partnership charter signed between Armenia and the US. 'Another important milestone is the strategic partnership declaration during Anthony Blinken's era, which was signed five days before Trump took office. They signed it like thieves before the new team arrived. This was another anti-Azerbaijani step by Mr. Blinken,' stated Aliyev.
