Azerbaijan Will Consider These Decisions Invalid: Aliyev
Azerbaijan will not comply with any decisions made by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a speech at the international forum themed "Towards a New World Order." According to Aliyev, the reason for this stance is the cessation of the powers of the Azerbaijani delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
"If the Azerbaijani delegation does not participate in the Assembly meetings and cannot vote in favor of the election of judges of the European Court of Human Rights, then the decisions of that court regarding Azerbaijan will be considered invalid. We have been deprived of our voting rights," said Aliyev.
It is noteworthy that in January 2024, PACE refused to endorse the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation. The resolution received 90 votes in favor, 76 against, and 4 abstentions. Subsequently, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that entry into the country would be banned for the 76 parliamentarians who voted against Azerbaijan.
