This is Both an Opportunity and a Test: Araqchi
The Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed that indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington will take place this Saturday in Oman.
"Iran and the US will meet this Saturday in Oman for high-level indirect negotiations. This is both an opportunity and a test (referring to the intentions of the US - Ed.), the ball is in the American court," Araqchi wrote on the X social network.
Yesterday, during a conversation with reporters at the White House, President Donald Trump, following talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that the US and Iran are engaged in direct negotiations.
"We are engaged in direct negotiations with Iran, and they have already started. There will be nearly the highest-level communications between the US and Iran on Saturday. I think everyone agrees that finalizing a deal would be preferable. The US will make honest and beneficial deals with other countries, and otherwise, they will have nothing in common with them. The US would prefer to resolve the issue of Iran's nuclear programs through negotiations, which also aligns with Tehran's interests," he said.
It is noteworthy that the negotiations will involve Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
