Official of Yerevan Municipality Arrested
The head of the communal management department at the Yerevan Municipality, Arsen Karoyan, who was previously arrested and then released in a bribery case, has been detained again. This information was provided to Auroranews by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia.
The Court of Appeals of the Anti-Corruption Court has annulled the decision of the first instance court regarding the bail and administrative oversight as a preventive measure for Karoyan, and has chosen detention for him as a preventive measure for a period of two months, as reported by Factinfo.
It is noteworthy that Arsen Karoyan was arrested on March 4 in connection with the bribery case. Approximately a month prior to this, investigative actions were conducted at the municipality, which led to the arrests of officials.
Within the framework of the criminal proceedings, there were 11 defendants in February, four of whom are currently in detention. Specifically, among the defendants are the head of the second division of the urban development and land oversight department, Mikael Ghimoyan; the head of the Public Order Protection Service, Aram Gyulzadyan, who previously held the position of head of the section for combating serious crimes and criminal authorities in the Police of Armenia; lawyer Robert Darbinyan, who has previously served in the Investigative Committee of Yerevan and then transferred to the Yerevan Municipality to head the urban development and land oversight department; and former deputy Aram Ayvazyan. These four individuals are currently detained.
