China to Participate in the Construction of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant: Min Chen
China is ready to actively participate in the construction and development of Armenia's nuclear energy. This was stated by Min Chen, the Chargé d'Affaires of China in Armenia, during an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
The Armenian government is discussing the construction of a new nuclear power plant, as the operational period of the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant, which has been extended thanks to modernization works carried out with the participation of Rosatom, will end in 2036. To prevent a potential energy deficit, the construction of a new plant must be completed by that deadline.
“China has a certain technological advantage in this field, and we are ready to harness our potential,” said Min Chen.
One of the urgent topics on the bilateral agenda is the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on “International Road Transport,” which, according to the diplomat, will strengthen transport links and communications between the countries. He is hopeful that a consensus on this matter will be reached in the near future.
Min Chen also noted that Beijing intends to engage Armenia more actively in transport projects within the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiative. In this regard, the possibility of synchronizing with Armenia’s “Peace Corridor” project is being considered.
He reminded that April 6 marks the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and China, emphasizing that cooperation is steadily developing. Projects are being implemented in the economic, social, and humanitarian sectors. According to him, the upcoming SCO summit this year could serve as an additional platform to deepen bilateral cooperation.
