Erdogan Heads to the US Due to Trump's Tariffs
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, plans to visit the United States in May to discuss the tariffs imposed on Turkish goods. This was reported by the Turkish media outlet Milliyet.
Turkey's Minister of Trade, Omer Bolat, stated that during Erdogan's visit, discussions will focus on how to alleviate these tariffs, as Turkish products have been subjected to a 10% tariff in the US starting April 2, 2024.
The Turkish journalists speculate, "The trade balance between Turkey and the US is balanced, and there is no negative situation for the US, so a mitigation is possible." On April 2, 2024, US President Donald Trump established a new tariff system, applying a 10% basic tariff on all imported goods, with significantly higher rates for certain countries: 34% for China, 46% for Vietnam, and 20% for the European Union.
