New Admission Testing Rules for Migrant Children in Russia

New Admission Testing Rules for Migrant Children in Russia

In Russia, migrant children must correctly answer 90% of the Russian language test to be admitted to school. This was announced by State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.

It was noted that the law came into effect on April 1. The Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science of Russia proposed setting the passing threshold at 30% of correct answers, but that proposal was not accepted.

“It has been revised. Today’s decision stipulates that for school admission, one must correctly answer 90% of the test,” he stated.

He mentioned that the materials for the Russian language test (including the oral part) have been developed for each stage of education.

“To be admitted to the first grade, one needs to correctly answer 9 out of 10 tasks; for grades 2-5, 18 out of 20 tasks; for grades 6-9, 20 out of 22 tasks; and for grades 10-11, 22 out of 24 tasks,” Volodin added.

According to the State Duma Chairman, the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science of Russia believes that this will allow for assessing the level of knowledge of the Russian language and provide children with the opportunity to successfully assimilate the school curriculum and adapt.
