Protest Outside the Investigation Committee and March to the Ministry of Internal Affairs: Demands to Punish Police Officers

A group of citizens staged a protest in Yerevan demanding the punishment of police officers accused of beating 28-year-old Tigran Ulubabyan from Artsakh.

Earlier, Ulubabyan's lawyer, Roman Yeritsyan, had stated that there were attempts to obtain testimonies from the authorities under threats and with the intent of further criminal prosecution against the lawyer.

Today, they marched from the building of the Investigation Committee to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, chanting “Justice,” “Violator Police,” and other slogans.

They were approached by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Narek Sargsyan, who stated: “No, there is no campaign against you at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”

It should be noted that a criminal case was initiated last week at the Investigation Committee based on reports of Ulubabyan being allegedly beaten, and a service investigation has also been assigned.

The police officers who allegedly beat Ulubabyan have not been dismissed from their positions, which has caused dissatisfaction among the victim’s side.

Recall that on March 19, citizens held a protest outside the Investigation Committee demanding that the police officers who tortured 28-year-old Tigran Ulubabyan at the Vanadzor police station be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

Additionally, a criminal proceeding has been initiated at the Vanadzor police based on the report of violence against Tigran Ulubabyan under Article 450, Part 2, Clause 7 of the Criminal Code (torture committed by a group of individuals).
