The US to Impose New Sanctions Against Iran

The United States has imposed new sanctions against six organizations and two individuals related to Iran. This was announced on the website of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

“Today's actions are the second phase of sanctions aimed at Iran's weapons proliferators, as President Donald Trump resumed the 'maximum pressure' policy against the Islamic Republic,” the Treasury Department's statement said.

According to the announcement, the sanctioned individuals and organizations are “responsible for the procurement of components for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on behalf of the Iranian 'Qods Aviation Industries' (QAI), the leading manufacturer of Iran’s drone program.”

“The proliferation of drones and missiles by Iran, both to its terrorist ally in the region and to Russia for use against Ukraine, continues to threaten civilians, U.S. personnel, our allies, and our partners,” U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bancen said.

The Treasury Secretary also emphasized that they will continue to disrupt Iran's military-industrial complex as well as the proliferation of drones, missiles, and conventional weapons. “All of this frequently ends up in the hands of destabilizing forces, including terrorist organizations,” he stated.
