USAID to Be Restructured, Rubio Says
The State Department has informed Congress of its intention to restructure the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This was announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to a report from Reuters citing the Secretary's statement.
“We are realigning our foreign aid programs to directly coincide with what is best for the United States and our citizens,” Rubio stated.
The Secretary specified that the restructuring involves “transferring certain functions of USAID to the department” by July 1. Other functions of the agency will be eliminated if they do not serve Washington's interests.
Previously, it was reported that the administration of President Donald Trump had cut U.S. international assistance by more than $27 billion throughout USAID's activities.
