It's Not a Good Idea: Papoyan Discusses Electric Vehicle Quota
During a Q&A session in the National Assembly of Armenia, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan responded to a question from Edgar Hakobyan, a member of the "Civil Contract" faction, stating that he is opposed to distributing quotas granted to dealer organizations for electric vehicles among individual importers whose quotas have expired.
It is noted that Armenia has been allocated 8,000 quotas for electric vehicles by 2025, with 5,000 designated for citizens and 3,000 for dealers. Papoyan emphasized that clear rules of the game have been established for dealers and individual importers by the end of 2024, and most of the quotas have been provided to individuals, which have been exhausted.
“It is true that the quotas for organizations have not yet been consumed; however, they have signed contracts for a significant portion of their quotas with other citizens of the Republic of Armenia, for whom they need to import vehicles. Therefore, I believe that changing the rules of the game at this point is not a good decision and can be very harmful for the business environment. We believe that we should remain firm in this position until the end,” he stated.
