Death Toll in Gaza Continues to Rise
Since March 18, the Israeli Defense Forces have resumed large-scale military operations in various regions of the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of 591 people, including 200 children, and injuries to 1,042 individuals. The number of casualties among children, women, and the elderly has made up 70% of the total death toll.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has declared that the situation in the Palestinian enclave is catastrophic, with the population suffering under horrific conditions. Israeli forces have advanced toward the western camp of the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood in southern Gaza. The towns of Khuzaa and Abasan, as well as the Al-Maghazi camp, have been targeted by heavy artillery fire.
The resumption of military operations has been explained by Hamas's rejection of proposals presented during negotiations by mediators and the U.S. President’s Special Envoy Stephen Wittykoff. Instead, Hamas has accused Israel and the U.S. of violating the ceasefire agreement, claiming that the movement has “maintained the ceasefire until the last moment.”
