Russia Calls on Baku and Yerevan to Show Restraint: Zakharova
Russia calls on Baku and Yerevan to show restraint and avoid escalation of the situation, stated Maria Zakharova, representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She made this statement while responding to a question from an Armenian journalist regarding the recent disinformation spread by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense.
“Of course, we cannot help but be concerned that, as I have said, against the backdrop of news about progress in the approval of peace agreement drafts between Azerbaijan and Armenia, unfortunately, there have been increasingly frequent reports of rising tensions at the border between the two countries. We strongly urge our partners to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could escalate the situation. All emerging problems should be resolved exclusively through peaceful, political, and diplomatic means. And, of course, we support Baku and Yerevan to return as soon as possible to the implementation of the package of trilateral agreements that started back in 2020 and 2022.
As for Russia's commitments to Armenia within the framework of the CSTO and in a bilateral format, all of them are in force, as everyone knows well. At the same time, I would like to remind that the suspension of Armenia's membership in the CSTO, in my opinion, does not contribute to Armenia's security, which is also evident,” she said.
