European Union Will Not Seize Russian Frozen Assets
The European Union has halted discussions on the potential confiscation of Russian frozen assets. This was reported by Deutsche Welle, citing the conclusions text from the EU summit held on March 20, which the publication has obtained.
According to the text, "Under EU legislation, Russian assets must remain immobilized until Russia ends its aggressive war against Ukraine and compensates for the damage caused by this war."
As one European diplomat told the publication prior to the summit, Europe is contemplating a future ceasefire and peace negotiations, and "people are beginning to understand that having those assets may be more important than seizing them without knowing what to do with them."
