What Erdogan and Trump Discussed
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a phone conversation on Sunday with his American counterpart Donald Trump, during which they discussed, among other things, the Ukrainian conflict, according to the Daily Sabah newspaper.
“Erdogan stated that he supports Trump’s efforts to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine,” the newspaper mentions.
Additionally, during the conversation with the U.S. president, Turkey’s leader expressed hope that relations between the two countries would be built on “a sincere approach focused on reaching solutions” during Trump’s administration.
According to Daily Sabah, the Turkish president urged Trump to lift sanctions against Turkey’s defense sector and to “complete Ankara’s acquisition process of American F-16 fighters.”
Meanwhile, according to the Turkish side, Erdogan and Trump discussed the fight against terrorism.
