Nearly 30 Viable Oak Trees Cut Down in Yerevan Botanical Garden: Eduard Hayrjumyan

Meet the Yerevan Botanical Garden. Recently, I heard from several sources that green trees are being cut down in the garden. I couldn't believe that such a thing could happen in a botanical garden, and at first, I paid it no mind. But today I decided to go personally and see for myself, and unfortunately, I witnessed everything you see in these photos.

About 30 viable oak trees have been cut down in the Yerevan Botanical Garden (according to eyewitnesses over the last several months). This was reported by blogger Eduard Hayrjumyan on his Facebook page.

“If someone claims that these trees were dry, tell them they are WRONG, because: 1. There was a large amount of fresh acorn and oak leaves fallen near all the cut trees, indicating that the trees were not dry. 2. There are new green shoots sprouting from the stumps of all the cut trees. 3. There were indeed some other dried trees in the area (not oaks) that had not been cut; only the oak trees were targeted. 4. Oak wood is currently the most valuable on the market (witnessed by the price of oak parquet), and the market value of the wood from one cut tree can reach several million drams. 5. Satellite images from Google clearly show that all the trees in that area were green,” he said.

This is a crime against the botanical garden, nature, and Yerevan,” he added.
