Ukrainian Armed Forces Operation in Kursk Region 'Has Accomplished Its Task,' Zelensky Says
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have completed their primary task in the Kursk region by driving Russian troops away from other sections of the front, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian leader acknowledged that the situation in the Kursk region is 'obviously very complicated.' He explained that the objective of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area was to push Russian forces out of the directions of Pokrovsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy.
“Our boys are absolutely heroic, they took such strong hits. The pressure must first ease in the Kharkiv direction. They (Russia) pulled as many of their troops as possible from there to Kursk. Then they began to withdraw troops from the eastern direction, but did not abandon their main task at Pokrovsk. We all understood this. They were just strong individuals who realized that at some point there was a chance that the Russians would halt their advances in the Pokrovsk direction. And that’s how it turned out,” he said.
According to the President of Ukraine, the situation in the Pokrovsk and Kharkiv directions has 'stabilized.'
“I believe that it (the operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region) has accomplished its task. I think the situation in the Pokrovsk direction is now stable, and finding the opportunity to retake Pokrovsk will be very difficult,” Zelensky concluded.
