Armenia Will Not Engage in Actions Against Iran: Nikol Pashinyan
The Republic of Armenia will not engage in any actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Iranian state television.
Responding to a question about potential actions in the event of threats directed against Iran by Western countries, Pashinyan said, “We need to clarify what you mean by ‘threat,’ but we have said that the Republic of Armenia will not engage in actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. That is, our natural and legitimate interests are what make us mutually sensitive to each other’s national interests. The stability of Iran is extremely important to us, the development of Iran is extremely important to us, and the security of Iran is extremely important to us, and I don’t even think it’s necessary to say why, because it is so obvious.”
According to Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia and Iran should “see mutual opportunities.”
“You spoke about unused opportunities, but it should also be emphasized what those unused opportunities are. In particular, in the North-South trade-economic direction, for example, the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran have much greater potential to cooperate, and we are working on that now. On the other hand, we can say that the Republic of Armenia may be the shortest, most reliable route for the Islamic Republic of Iran to the west and north, and we are also having discussions around these topics with our partners from the Islamic Republic of Iran. These are questions that can be expressed if there is trust between the two countries and governments. And I am pleased to note that we are observing at the highest level in our communications that there is trust between the governments of the two countries.
Trust does not mean that we view absolutely everything in the same way, or that we have the same interpretation on everything. No, trust means that we are mutually familiar with the flow of ideas regarding our issues and regional relations, and we have a certain understanding of that flow of ideas,” he added.
