Belarus Has No Intention to Attack Ukraine, Lukashenko Says
Belarus has no intention of attacking Ukraine. This was stated by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
"Yes, the border (Belarusian-Ukrainian) is very heavily barricaded, it's mined everywhere. They have long feared that we would get involved in this war," said Lukashenko in an interview with Olga Skabeyeva. His remarks were quoted by the state BelTA news agency on Friday.
"We clearly follow the trend towards peace. And we currently have no plans to attack Ukraine. That would even be unfair of us," emphasized the Belarusian president.
He also mentioned that Ukraine had offered to create camps for Russian and Ukrainian prisoners of war on Belarusian territory. "They planned to set up camps in Belarus where the prisoners of war would be held. This was Ukraine’s proposal; we (Belarus) would oversee those camps, Ukrainian prisoners would go to one camp, Russians to another," said Lukashenko.
"But we do not take any position. We ensure that they are good, well-equipped, provide assistance to the wounded, and so on," added the Belarusian president.
Lukashenko noted that the Ukrainian side had expressed a willingness to finance this project. "I say, in that case, secondly, agree with the Russians, come to an agreement, we would be glad to help you," he said.
