The US Wants to Forge a New Nuclear Deal with Iran, Says Lavrov

The US aims to link a new nuclear agreement with Iran to its demand for the country to refrain from supporting various groups in the Middle East, but this option is unlikely to succeed. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

“It is concerning that there are some signs that the Americans would like this new deal to be accompanied by political conditions, under which Iran would be obliged to undergo inspections confirming that it does not support groups in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and elsewhere. This does not mean that the US does not want this new deal to occur. I do not think such an option will work,” Lavrov declared.

According to him, all Gulf countries have influence beyond the borders of their kingdoms and emirates. “In North Africa, they are implementing quite a number of humanitarian and economic projects. They act as mediators. For example, in Sudan, the internal crisis in this country is being resolved one way or another by some Gulf players. Therefore, I believe that the scenario in which everyone except Iran would have the right to influence other countries in the region is an unrealistic scenario,” he concluded.
