This Surge of Violence is Unacceptable, Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a press conference following negotiations with OSCE Secretary General Helmut Lohi, stated that Russian authorities are concerned about the escalation of violence and deem what is happening in Syria as unacceptable.

Lavrov reminded that Russia and its partners have been working for years to ensure peace and security in the region. “This surge of violence is, of course, unacceptable,” he said.

According to him, the interactions between Russia and the new Syrian authorities so far have shown that they approach not only Moscow’s signals but also those from the Arab world, the United States, and Western nations with understanding.

Lavrov also reported that during his visit to Ankara in late February, he held discussions with Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaybani.
