Zelensky Reveals When US-Ukraine Negotiations Are Planned
Next week, negotiations between the US and Ukraine will take place in Saudi Arabia. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, expressing hope that it will be a "meaningful meeting."
Zelensky stated that Kyiv is working towards achieving a "swift and lasting" peace: "The Ukrainian and American teams have resumed work, and we hope that next week we will have a meaningful meeting. Ukraine has been seeking peace since the first moment of the war, and we have always said that the war continues solely because of Russia," Zelensky's statement reads.
The Ukrainian president has called on the international community to exert more pressure on Moscow to "accept" the necessity of ending the war. According to the BBC, the Ukrainian leader will be in the kingdom but will not participate in the negotiations.
US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in turn, stated that the American team wants to discuss the main terms of peace in an effort to bring an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war. A heated debate occurred between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Donald Trump, and Vice President Jay D. Vance during a meeting at the White House on February 28. On March 4, Zelensky issued a statement emphasizing that Ukraine is ready to sit at the negotiating table as soon as possible, as no one desires peace as much as Ukrainians do. He expressed regret that the meeting at the White House "did not go as planned."
